I tried this delicious appetizer at a party recently in LA. “Why didn’t I ever think of this,” I thought? So simple, fresh, seasonal…and easy. So, I made it for my own party when I returned home and about 25 figs disappeared in about 5 minutes.
Figs with Basil and Chevre |
- 15-25 fresh figs
- handful of fresh basil leaves shredded into small strips
- ½ cup fresh goat cheese ( I got mine from the farmers market in Austin, TX from my favorite goat farmers, Swede Farms. They have amazing raw goat cheese).
- Heat oven to broil.
- Cut figs in half and place on a cookie sheet.
- Place about 1 teaspoon of goat cheese in the middle of each fig half.
- Sprinkle some shredded basil over each fig.
- Place cookie sheet in over for 30 seconds-1 minute, just long enough to barely melt and brown the cheese.
- Remove from oven and eat!
- As a little something extra, you can drizzle some balsamic reduction over each fig.
- Enjoy!
